Tracking 3DE – w4/5

This couple weeks I’ve spent tracking the footage in 3D Equalizer and exporting it to Maya.

In 3DE, you need to place the tracking points one by one, and when you have a big area to cover it can feel a bit overwhelming. I had a session with Dom, which is our 3DE tutor, and he gave me some tips in placing points. I separated the footage in areas and added no more than 5 points for each. In that way, I moved faster through the areas, but still would have a solid track.

In the background, I would add just a couple points so that the camera could calculate the depth of field.

This software is better in finding out the camera and lens it was used than Nuke, so the problem I had back in week 2 with the distortion was fixed.

Now I have a much better tracking, but I need to fix the building to match the perspective and size.
