To start texturing the robot, I placed an image plane of one of the shots and found an HDRI online to check if the textures would fit to the environment.

I tried reproducing the light we had on the shooting location using a HDRI of a forest, because I knew we had many trees there.

After, I went online in some websites to gether textures. I aimed for rusted metal ones. Some parts of the robot I wanted to add some color, but still looking old and abandoned. All the metal parts needed to look corroded, and the painted parts needed to look like it had peeled of.

To build the peeled of look I had to use two different materials: one with the top, and another for the peeled part. By adding a aiCurvature node, the edges of the top texture desappear, giving space for the bottom one. I also added noise, to the peeling wasn’t too uniform and applied that to almost all of the materials.

The result looked like expected.

I also took some of the textures to Photoshop, and added more scratches by using a paint brush.
