Diana was responsible for compositing everything together in Nuke, so she merged the scene I modelled and textured, the particle simulation she made, and the cleanup and drawings Jane did.
Jane laso added some sounds to the video:
I actually liked a lot the result of our project. I still think there are things that could be better, such as doing even more alterations to the footage itself, like covering up the entrance at the beggining, and adding more 3D objects to the scene.
What I liked most about developing this project was to learn the process itself of starting with 2D footage, transforming it into 3D and making alterations then exporting back to 2D. The transformation included tracking a challenging footage in a software we haven’t ever used before, then understanding how to export it and build the scene in Maya, adding the geo and texturing it, then rendering out and compositing in 2D.
I really enjoy working in 3D, so my favorite part was texturing and lighting, just because I haven’t done much before, so it was a challenge to me. I had to do a lot of research in order to create the neon lights, because by only applying emission to a aiStandardSurface we couldn’t achieve the look we were looking for. I had to add also an area light and an atmosphere to achieve that.
Working with Diana and Jane was a great pleasure. I believe we able to find each one’s relative strenghts and complement each others weaknesses.
